Oh, Such Joy

When I made the call this afternoon, when I left the voice mail that said, “Please let us know what we need to do next to proceed with adopting her,” it was just a formality. I knew we’d say yes from the moment my husband, unexpectedly, said, “Let’s see what happens.”

She was a face on the page I’d checked obsessively every day, more than once a day, since we officially became a waiting family. She was a little girl in a dress that was too long. She was a little girl, not a baby. I was sure Jarod would say no, that we were going to stick to the course we’d set out for ourselves as a family.

But he didn’t say no.

He said, “Let’s see what happens.”

She is three years old.

She is just who I dreamed about.

She is our Magnolia.

Happiness.

So wonderful! I was sure your “vague” post couldn’t possibly be about a referral, I’ve never been so happy to be wrong before! Can’t wait to hear more details! And I’ll just tell you – though I’m sure you already know – three-year-old girls are the best!

  4. YES! That’s the best news I’ve had all day!!!

  5. YAY! I had to go take a peek. She’s gorgeous! So excited for you guys!

  6. Thanks, everyone. We are just over the moon. She is perfect for us, and we are excited to meet her, hopefully sooner rather than later. Cross your fingers for a court date before the courts close for the rainy season!

    Hi Mary,
Just read your comment on GGC. And I just read your post and so many wow’s and awe’s and yay’s and tears of joy for you and your husband. I know strangers becoming emotional for other strangers can be a little odd but I can feel the love and desire you have for your little girl. It is so beautiful and I wish you all the best as you travel far distances to meet and bring her home.
Many blessings, there are so many to come!

  10. Hi Mary, I saw your post on GGC. Last year at this time we received our referral for our son who just recently turned two. Toddler adoption is challenging but like you said when you see your child you know they are yours in your heart. I wrote about all our experience at my blog. Good luck!

Your little guy is adorable! I just love hearing everyone’s referral stories. When we were waiting, I think it is what kept me going. And now that we know who our girl is, it just makes me so happy to share in such a good thing.

  11. I just read your comment on GGC and had to come to read your blog. I spent the last couple hours reading your entire blog and it is amazing! What a story and I can’t wait to keep reading about your family! How exciting in just a few days you will be with your beautiful little girl!!

You are too kind to read this entire blog! I did a lot of complaining during our paper chase phase–I hope you skimmed those posts. 🙂 I look forward to sharing more of our story with you as we bring little lady home.
